At first, it was Project 0…
September 2023, I met Phoebe. Gym clothes, clear eyes, driven. I was a little intimidated. I had my guard up, as usual. I wanted to leave. I was ready to leave-
“It’s hard creating alone,” she tapped away on her keyboard.
I leaned back and stayed for the rest of the meeting.

It started here: a cafe, a drink each, little money, big ideas. Project 0 was the name of our tiny group. We thundered through conversations:
Fireworks. I could feel the excitement between us. We started looking at venues, budget and-
Project 0 was no more. Well, temporarily…

January 2024, I reached out to Phoebe once again. Long story short, we were back on it.
Loom team is created
June 2024: 5 months had passed and we did nothing. That’s what happens if you don’t have a project manager. We went through a list of mutuals that could pull us together:
That’s how Jin became our project manager. Spreadsheets, meeting notes, scheduling- you name it. We did the most amount of work in 2 weeks compared to the 5 months.
Thanks to him, we managed to make a brand name for ourselves, Loom.
Jin often says, 'Done' when the work is finished, and 'I’m just playing devil’s advocate' when Phoebe and I are being unrealistic.
Another one was, ‘What’s the vision for this event?’.
I had no clue. What is the purpose of it?
Why Blank Canvas?
At 2AM, I looked back at an episode I posted on Mool. Phoebe opened up about her struggle as an artist. Facing the pressures of reality. Grappling between passion and self worth.
We’ve been there. We probably will be there again.
We size and measure our worth with things that don’t value us. We dive deep into results, applause and instant dopamine boosts. What we used to love becomes laborious. We loathe ourselves without it.
But last time I checked, art was meant to be fun. That’s why we started it. Clean slate. Blank canvas.
I know we can’t ignore reality, but if you could, just for one day, enjoy the gift of art, maybe you would realise that you're worth so much more than what you have.
Hence, Blank Canvas became our theme: the celebration of the GIFT of art.
If the event is a blank canvas, we would love for you to make it colourful by the end of it! Art is for everyone, not just the pros… We just want you to have fun 🙂
