edum's just a really cool guy. I can't say much.
Good music, great character, strong determination. We feel proud having him involved at Blank Canvas!
This is his story:
Hi, edum! How has life been treating you?
Life’s been really packed and busy.
I recently had a first launch party by my party brand, SZN. I've also been making a collaboration EP and alongside with my own EP throughout this year.
We're so excited to have you on board at Blank Canvas! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is edum, a Korean-Australian rapper. I’ve been making music for about 3 to 4 years now.
My personal inspiration these days are Nippsey and Jay Z, both who are great rappers and also entrepreneurs. I’ve also been listening a lot of Isaiah Rashad and Tory Lanez.
I’ve love all different types of music. Recently I’ve been listening to The Black Skirts, a Korean Indie band. Even though the genre is completely different to what I make, his lyrics and the way he puts his sound together is amazing.
I’m curious about your journey as a musician. When did you decide that you wanted to do this?
My start was very spontaneous. I saved up money to study at a university because I wasn't an Australian citizen. However, with all the money I saved up, I didn’t want to spend it all on what I didn’t love.
So, as I was speaking to my friend about it, he told me to just do music. The same day, I just went in, bought gears and here I am.
What’s something that you are proud of?
My favourite work would be my party brand SZN.

It had its first party on 11th Oct with 3 Korean DJs flying in to support along with 2 local DJs, including myself, that night.
I always envisioned having a hiphop event in Sydney but no one did it. I sat down with my friends and said, “How about we just do this for ourselves?”.
That was the start of it.
I’m a firm believer in accountability and support within the industry. What are your thoughts on this?
Yes I believe in accountability and support. I also receive support from surrounding artists.
However, I believe that you have to put in the work before you go out of your way to look for support. It wouldn't mean much if you rely on others without trying to improve in your craft.
That being said, it is a blessing to have talented people around you who can genuinely support and pull you through.
What is the hardest part of what you do?
I think it’s time management.
As an independent artist you have to plan album covers, music videos, marketing, gigs, etc.
Balancing all that alongside with work is a challenge.
How often do you experience burnout? How do you combat it?
I experience burn out often hahaha.
I tend to write my thoughts down when I’m burnt out. At other times, I listen back to my older works and see how far I’ve come.
I also meet my artist friends to understand what I can do better.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Just go. Don’t think too much.
Please tell us your dream and for your personal life :)
I want to make good music, good art and good culture.
I want it to all start with Loom and SZN.
What can we expect from you at the Blank Canvas event?
I want to share energy, both receiving and giving.
I’ve got new tracks that are totally different to my older vibes and style so be keen.
